- Ok, here's my story. I was using a DX-33 machine with 8Mb of ram
- running Netroom's cacheclk with a 2Mb cache. I use TIA version 2 on a
- dial-up account with Trumpet 2.0.B, Netscape 1.22, Eudora, WFtp, and
- WinVN ( see ver above ), running via an Intel 14.4 external modem. In
- early Feb. I began to see Comm Overrun errors. I never saw them before.
- At the time I had upgraded my Compuserve version to WinCim 2.0.1. I did
- load C'serve's Mosaic with it's Winsock. I thought there might be a
- problem with the 2 Winsocks, so I renamed the C'serve version - *.sav.
- Having checked this group and all the attendant FAQ's, my System.ini
- settings are:
-
- Com2Fifo=1
- Com2Buffer=1024
- Com2TxSize=16
- Com2RxSize=8

- I've been switching between WinFax's comm driver and the Cybercom
- driver. For a time in late Feb. the problem went away! In early March,
- I upgraded to a new motherboard, AMD5X86-133 and went back to Smartdrive
- , using a 2Mb cache (found it to be faster, sorry Helix). Yes, I have
- hi-speed 16550 UARTs on my I/O board. The Comm Overruns have returned
- and nothing I do seems to help! I can't believe that with my new processor
- the system isn't fast enough to handle my comm service.
- I've manipulated my MSS, MTU, RWin, baud rate, you name it.
- TCPmeter reports 4K bytes/sec transfer rates. It this too? fast
- for a 14.4 modem. Could my telephone line be a cause of excessive retries,
- and could this cause the overruns? My ISP, Clark.net of Ellicott City, Md.
- only uses 28.8 modems. Could they not be sevicing my 14.4 correctly, even
- though my connect message says Connect 14.4 Rel-LAPM. I'm at my limit of
- experience on this one. Any help would be appreciated. :-). Thanks....
